The senior class of 2018 finally comes to an end of their journey at MCC and they go into the world with 4 years of education under their belt, a diploma in their hand and a smile on their face. Memories made that can never be forgotten and people that stood out above the rest are in this year’s mock elections. Awards were given to 42 deserving seniors.

First off, awarded with class clown is Margaret Robinson and Christian Sanford. This pair was also voted class clowns in their 8th grade year. Class flirts were awarded to Felicity Flores and Gus Quigley and the students that have changed the most through the years were Ian Grey and Anna Wagner. If you’re an outstanding, respectful student like Hannah Jaworski and Robert Florian, you just might have a shot at getting voted for teachers’ pets! And if you’re a bit on the quiet side like Nolan Eisenlohr and Angelica Covarrubias, you’re most likely to be voted the quietest kid in the senior class.

The most athletic award went to Savannah Bice and Ian Grey; both students are three sport athletes. Ian plays baseball, basketball and football and he was also recognized as an All-State athlete in football as a punter. Savannah plays volleyball, basketball and softball.

“To receive best dressed in all the senior class is an honor, because it just means you stood out a lot,” says senior Kennady Merrick along with Ramsey Griffis. “I didn’t dress fabulous all year to not be voted best dressed,” said Ramsey. Kennady plans on attending Adrian College this fall and Ramsey plans on going to West Shore and receive his Bachelor’s Degree in nursing.

Another pair of students, along with Kennady and Ramsey, stood out for another reason. Margaret Robinson and Gus Quigley were voted most school spirit. You would see Gus on the court cheering on his team and Margaret in the stands cheering on her classmates. “Being the student section leader was the highlight of my senior year and I’ll never forget the feeling of being in the stands.” says Margaret. “The basketball season wouldn’t have been the same if we didn’t have those two kids in the stands. They really got the team excited to play ball,” says Mike Weinert, head coach of the girls varsity basketball team.

As for class inseparables, you’ve probably seen them together more often than you see them apart. Kennady Merrick and Natalie Lyon were voted class inseparable girls along with Nolan Eisenlohr and Seth Wood as class inseparable boys.

When it came time to vote for mock elections, there was no question to who would have won most artistic. Olivia Kimes and Ramsey Griffis won this category “unanimously.” Olivia has had multiple art pieces in not only the Mason County Art Show, but the West Shore Community College Art Shows as well. “Art is a huge commitment,” says Kimes, “It’s something that is a very big part of who I am and it’s helped me become a better person in every aspect of my life.” Ramsey was very pleased when he won this category. “I’m very honored and humbled by Ms. Brock and all her help throughout the years,” he stated.

You’d be able to tell just by looking at them, it’s no question how Natalie Lyon and Ian Grey won the category of best eyes. Also being able to tell just by looking at them, these students are everyone’s favorite “mom and dad.” Jordan Danielson and Jacob Edwards are without a doubt the most likely to get married! Make sure you check your mail for an invite to the ceremony in the near future!

Everyone knows that in high school, the top dogs of the school usually have the coolest car out of the whole senior class. Those top dogs are Preston Gigante and Cynthia Wurtz. Preston owns an electric blue 2015 Audi and Cynthia drives a silver Impala. So, if the top dogs of the school have the best car, what does that make the kids who have the worst cars? We don’t have a name for those kids, but let’s call them Margaret Robinson and Gavin Baerwolf. Margaret is the proud owner of a 1996 Chevy pickup truck and Gavin of a 2002 Cadillac. “It was my dad’s truck. It may have been in a little better condition back in it’s prime, but I like it just the way it is!” Robinson claims, “In my opinion, I think not having a muffler or tailgate just gives it more character.”

If you’ve ever heard these kids play in the band then you already know how talented they are. The most musical award was received by none other than the top dogs of the parking lot and the band, Preston Gigante and Cynthia Wurtz. Preston plans on attending (college) to pursue his dream of being a professional singer/songwriter. Cynthia is on the fast track to a bachelor’s degree with the help of her professors in the ASM tech program.

This next award is a very real disease that affects almost every senior to walk the halls of MCC. Senioritis. The most common side effects are laziness, extreme difficulty getting up in the morning, lack of motivation, procrastination, inability to finish homework on time, and forgetting project due dates. Although everyone has some sort of form of senioritis, nobody has it as bad as Cameron Morton and Adrianna Estrada. “I’ve probably missed more assignments than any other senior,” says Morton.

Although some seniors dream of seeing Mason County in their rearview while they go off to college, a few students have everything they’ll ever need right here in Scottville. Those students are Faith Dyga and Ethan Beetz. “Why would I want to go anywhere else?” asked Beetz, “I’ve got everything I need to be successful right here where I grew up.”

Do you ever feel like you have been placed in the wrong era, or ever thought about how groovy it would have been to grow up in the 80’s? Well for born in the wrong decade winners Olivia Kimes and Ethan Beetz, that’s their mood everyday! “The clothes, the lingo, the vibes, everything just seemed so much cooler back then!” says Kimes. Another thing that was big back in those days was the hair, the bigger the better! You can usually tell what kind of day someone is having just by looking at their hair, but for these two seniors they had nothing but good hair days! The winners of best hair went to Tyler Sniegowski and Tatiana Ramirez.

You’ve read about the best dressed seniors, the class clowns, the top dogs with the top cars, and the class couple. But what you haven’t read in the article about the two most sophisticated and mature seniors that were voted to most likely to be president. Seniors Aaron Hathaway and Megan Briggs have been deemed by their peers as the future presidents of the U.S.A. Hathaway has only one thing to say “I thought it was a mistake at first, or a joke. I found out it’s neither of those things. So I’m honored.” Hathaway is a two time state champion in Forensics in the categories dramatic interpretation and poetry. While Megan is off to Yale University.
